The Youth Environmental Ambassador Program (YEAP) engages youth in expeditionary and experiential learning by immersing them in the outdoors. Participants will learn, through hands-on outdoor activities as well as workshops, discussions and lectures, about the diversity, fragility, and value of the earth’s natural environments.
A unique and fundamental aspect of the YEAP is the use of photography and videography to document our expedition, the environment we are experiencing, and the human impacts on it. Students will learn these tools of ‘environmental visual communication’ – visual storytelling and environmental journalism – and use the images and video they shoot to create a professional quality presentation that they will deliver to youth in their home regions. Through this, students become environmental ambassadors, sharing their experiences and environmental messages with their peers.
